General EvaluatorThe
General Evaluator gives an overall evaluation of the meeting.
His or her evaluation of the presiding officer, the Toastmaster, the
Topic-master, and the other evaluators can have a great impact on the
attitudes of the members.
The General Evaluator should give each speech evaluator a strong review
of their performance.
Be sure to point out specific examples of what they did effectively and
maybe one or two specific examples of things that were less effective. Before
the meeting, the General Evaluator should contact the Speech Evaluators,
the Table Topics Evaluator, and the Vote Counter.
Confirm their ability to attend the meeting and make sure they
understand their jobs.
Make sure that each Speech Evaluator knows which manual project their
speaker will be delivering.
Make sure they read and understand all the objectives of their speakers
project. Let
them know that they are to contact their assigned speaker in advance of the
meeting to verify the assignment project and to understand any personal
objectives that the Speaker may be working on. As
General Evaluator, you will need to contact the Toastmaster of the meeting to
confirm that each of those youve contacted will be present.
This is also a good time to give your personal introduction information
to the Toastmaster.
(You wont need to contact the Grammarian and Ah Counter, even though
you will be calling on them as members of your evaluation team.
Its the Toastmaster who will make the pre-meeting contact, because the
Toastmaster introduces them at the beginning of the meeting to explain their
jobs, and may want to give some introductory information about them.) By
Wednesday afternoon, contact the person who prepares the printed meeting
agenda. They
too need to know that those you contacted will be present and carrying out
their assignments, so the agendas will be correct. At
the meeting, the Toastmaster will introduce you as the General Evaluator
at the beginning of the evaluation portion of the meeting.
You take control and remain at the lectern, while the Toastmaster sits
down. You
remain at the lectern throughout the evaluation portion the other members of
your team will stand and speak at their seats.
Introduce the Table Topics Evaluator and each Speech Evaluator, using
the introduction you obtained from them.
Then call on the Grammarian and Ah Counter for their reports (no
special introduction needed).
Give your evaluation of the evaluators and overall evaluation of the
meeting. Suggest
specific improvements, but end on a positive note as you return control to the
Toastmaster. |
